Reunion Weekend Schedule

Thursday, June 7

Registration and Dorm Check In
Dinner on Your Own
Ashburnham has two restaurants we highly recommend:

Tavern on Central, located at 3 Central Street, features a massive beer and cocktails list. Highlights of the menu include nachos, salads, burgers, and some really amazing tacos.

Yaka Sawa Sushi and Grill, located at 57 Main Street, serves beer and wine, sashimi, maki, various soups, lo mein, tempura, hibachi, and more.

Of course, there’s also Brother’s Pizza and Village Pizza if you’re interested in pizza, calzones, or sandwiches.

Friday, June 8

Metalsmithing Workshop With Bob Johnson
9:00 am - Here’s a chance to relive your Cushing academy metalsmithing experience, or if you didn’t have a chance to take metalsmithing as a student, this is your opportunity to do so as an adult. Craft your very own pair of earrings or bracelet to take home with you. ($30 per piece, up to 2 pieces, in addition to the reunion weekend fee)

Campus Tours
11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Come see what’s changed since you were last on campus. Some of our young alumni will show you around!        

Open Gym at the Watkins Field House
11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Need something to do while you’re waiting for all of your friends to gather? Check out the Watkins Field House, which will be open for basketball and working out in our fitness center.
11:30 am – 1:00 pm - Enjoy an informal meal in the dining hall.
A Reunion First! Athletics, Performing Arts and Visual Arts Receptions
5:30-7:30 pm. No doubt many of your fondest memories were made outside of the class room. Come join us for an evening where we celebrate athletics, performing arts, and visual arts at three unique receptions. Come to one or all three. These special receptions are offered free of charge* but you must register formally for Reunion Weekend to attend the Opening Reception and subsequent events. Didn’t participate in any of these activities? Feel free to sample delicious food and drink at all three.

*Art for Art's Sake
Join fellow artists and art lovers for a gathering in the art building to both view a selection of alumni art, and to reconnect with Visual Arts faculty. Featuring the work of Ken Carlson ’63 and Stephen Young ’79.

Golden Hour Reception
5:00 – 6:00 pm.  Our Gold Key Society members — the classes of 1968 and earlier — are invited to a special reception on Lowe Hall Porch. Catch up with old friends and welcome the newest members of the society to campus.
Opening Reception
8:00 – 10:00 pm. One of the best events of the whole weekend! We’ll be on the library terrace (or in the library, in case of rain). This is where the reunion party really gets started.

Saturday, June 9

6:00 - 10:00 am
Gold Key Breakfast
8:30 – 10:00 am.Members of our Gold Key Society are invited to breakfast to honor the class of 1968 as they celebrate their 50th reunion and are inducted into the society. After breakfast, we’ll take class photos of our Gold Key classes.
9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Come check in, pick up your room key, leave a note for classmates, or hang out and see who shows up. If you’re arriving just for the grand celebration on Saturday night, we’ll have the registration at the Grand Celebration site beginning at 4:00 pm.
Open Gym at the Watkins Field House
7:00 - 10:00 am. Here’s another chance to experience the Watkins Field House. The gym is a beauty and the fitness area features top-of-the-line equipment.
Coed Alumni Hoops at the Watkins Field House

Alumni Memorial Service
11:30 am. We’ll take a moment to honor and remember those classmates who have left us since last reunion.
Berkley's Backyard BBQ
12:00 – 2:00 pm. This has become quite the reunion weekend tradition! Berkley Hoagland ’86 is coming back again this year with his amazing BBQ skills.
Water Color Demonstration by Bob Johnson
2:00 – 4:00 pm. One of our most popular reunion events, watch Bob Johnson show off his incredible painting skills.
Alumni Hockey Games!
2:00 - 4:00 pm. With Cushing’s representation at the 2018 Olympics there’s never been a better time to be a Cushing Hockey alum (or fan!) New this year we have both a men’s and women’s game going. Join us for a drink in the lobby after to toast all things Cushing Hockey!
Tea Time
2:30-3:30 pm. Get a respite from the sun, (or rain) take a break, and enjoy an old-fashioned afternoon tea with friends old and new.
Grand Reunion Celebration - For All Classes
6:00 - 10:00 pm. This is truly the main event of the whole weekend. Join us for class photos, dinner, dancing, and fun! Business casual dress.
10:00 pm to midnight. Need a breath of fresh air? Not yet ready for bed? Continue the party at the bonfire.
10:00 - 11:30 pm. If a bonfire isn’t your cup of tea, join us on Lowe Hall’s porch for a more mellow vibe.

Sunday, June 10

Farewell brunch
8:00 - 11:00 am. One last event to catch up with friends before heading home to the real world.

Special Pricing

Class of 2013, Gold Key Society Members, and Former Faculty Take Note!

Class of 2013. Because you’re coming back for your first official Reunion Weekend, we want to make attending especially easy for you. You get to attend reunion for half price! Where else can you get a full weekend of food, fun, and lodging for $62.50 (if you register before May 1, and just $75 if you register after May 1)

Gold Key Society Members and Former Faculty. If you graduated in 1967 or years previous to 1967 or are a former faculty member you may attend Reunion free of charge. (A fee does apply to lodging.)

Looking for a Place to Stay?

Reunion guests have a variety of lodging options to choose from during their visit. To book your reservations, be sure to call the hotel directly and ask for applicable discounted rates for Cushing Academy guests.

A limited number of rooms at the Colonial Inn in Gardner have been set aside at a reduced rate. Just mention Cushing Reunion.

Do you need a ride from Boston?
On Friday, the Cushing bus will leave South Station at 5:00 pm. It will return to South Station on Sunday, leaving campus at 10:30 am. Please note: you must register for the bus in advance. You can sign up using this form, online, or by calling the Alumni Office at 978-827-7400. The bus must leave promptly at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 8, so that our alumni can make it back to campus in time for the opening reception. ($10 each way in addition to the Reunion Weekend fee)
Childcare option
You’re welcome to bring your children to Reunion Weekend. If you would like childcare for Friday and/or Saturday nights, we can help find someone to help. Children must be 3 years of age and toilet trained. This option must be requested in advance.
