A Study of Ancient Writing Systems

To gain a deeper appreciation for writing systems of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, students in Nancy Boyle's Topics in Linguistics class conducted online and primary source research on artifacts on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Ancient Egyptian collection recently. Students studied writing found on several artifacts, primarily from Giza, including a False Door of Kha, the Sarcophagus of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Lid of Sarcophagus of General Kheperra. Linguistics students were able to see first hand the artifacts they had been researching and spend time studying hieroglyphs and art in galleries of Nubia, Ancient Egypt, and Mummies and Egyptian Funerary Arts.
