Blossom Truel '17 Awarded ROTC National Scholarship

A huge shout-out to Blossom Truel ’17 for being awarded a three-year ROTC National Scholarship. Blossom will be attending Norwich University this fall where she plans to major in biology and pursue a career in medicine. She will also play ice hockey and lacrosse.

Each year, over 10,000 students from across the country apply for a limited number of ROTC National Scholarships. The selection rate, however, can be as low as 30%. The rigorous process includes an application, physical fitness test, medical review, and personal interview. Recipients receive full coverage of tuition and mandatory fees for the term of the award, and agree a commitment of service in the United States Army.

“I always knew I had potential, but my experience at Cushing really opened my eyes to that,” said Blossom. “Receiving a scholarship at the national level and making the commitment says a lot about yourself and your character. This will open so many opportunities for my future.”

Founded in 1819, Norwich University is the oldest private military school in the United States and recognized as the birthplace of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. It was founded on the principle of the citizen soldier; all educated persons should be prepared to defend the republic in time of crisis.
