JVGIH vs. Deerfield Academy: CA 5; DA 10

Deerfield Academy – 10 Cushing Academy – 5 The Cushing Academy JV Girls’ Hockey team kicked-off the 10th Annual Pink the Rink event to benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with a tilt against a strong Deerfield squad. Despite the excitement of playing for a great cause, the Cushing nerves took hold and Deerfield capitalized with three goals in the first five minutes of the first period. The first few minutes of the game were an indicator of things to come, but not before Cushing began chipping away at the Deerfield lead. The first period would end with Deerfield leading 5-2. The Penguins would come to life in the second period by gathering themselves a goal, making tape-to-tape passes, and hustling on the backcheck and forecheck. Despite the coming to life, Cushing would head into the second intermission trailing 9-3. Cushing would come out the second intermission with much more urgency in their play and quickly cut the Deerfield lead to 9-5. Although they played with urgency, put pucks to net, and never stopped hustling, Deerfield would not allow Cushing to get any closer and would tally another one to take back to Deerfield a 10-5 win. The girls will be back in action with an away tilt at Middlesex School on Wednesday, Jan. 9th. The game is scheduled to start at 2:45pm. Player of the Game- Marlow Saucier Season Record: 2-1-0
