VBIH vs. Thayer Academy: CA 2; Thayer 4

Thayer Academy – 4
Cushing Academy – 2

In a rematch of the Watkins Tournament Championship game to end the month of December, Cushing traveled to Thayer to face the Tigers in their own barn. A tough place to play regularly, the rematch made the atmosphere even better and the Thayer team was amped up to snag a win and even the series between the teams.

It was a tight checking affair and the game was filled with angst as both teams battled to get the upper hand. Twice the Thayer Tigers grabbed the upper hand and took a lead, but twice the Cushing Penguins answered the bell. The first Cushing answer was from Joe Noone with his first Penguin goal. Cushing’s second answer was late in the game when Shane Zarcone took advantage of a weird puck bounce and slid one past the Thayer goalie. With the game knotted up a 2-apiece late, Cushing took a penalty and Thayer capitalized with their third power play goal of the game. Thayer grabbed their insurance goal on an empty netter to secure the victory.

The Penguins look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 19th with a neutral site road game against Hebron Academy. The game is scheduled for 1:00pm on the campus of University of New England in Biddeford, ME.
