Though just in its second year, the Cushing Investment Club is wasting no time in diversifying its offerings. Launched this week, the club’s Investment Competition is now underway between Cushing, Hotchkiss, Loomis Chaffee, Taft School, and Lafayette High School (Missouri). The competition will run through May.
Club founder Jordan Comeau ’14 contacted schools to gauge interest over the summer, while Fred Morlock ’16 designed the competition’s website and stock market simulator. At the opening bell on Monday, the teams were off and running.
“It’s really great to share ideas – to learn and collaborate,” said Jordan. “ We compete with other schools in sports but we don’t have as many opportunities for intellectual competitions. Reaching out to offer this competition is a great way to foster relationships with other schools.”
Cushing’s club has 16 active members and David Shields serves as the faculty advisor. The group spent last year and the summer reaching out to consulting firms, banks, hedge funds, and investors for information, inspiration, and guidance.
“We’re putting all our ideas together, trying to create the stage for better investing and better communicating,” said Jordan. “This is going to be an incredible experience to learn and grow along with other institutions.”
Stay tuned for completion standings and announcement of the winning team next spring. A first-place trophy designed by Bob Johnson, Cushing’s Chair of Fine Arts, will be passed between winners each year.
