Ash House Proctors Lead Fundraiser for Local Girl with Cancer

Michelle Salvucci is the dorm parent in Ashburnham House. Recently, one of her daughter’s friends, Kate, was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), an inoperable brain stem tumor.

Mrs. Salvucci’s residents were so moved by Kate’s story that they decided to hold a fundraiser during the on-campus weekend. The fundraiser was led by Ash House proctors Jack Carroll, Joey Daccord, Trevor Kacz, Max Hegge, and David Cotton, and the rest of the residents joined in. The boys sold glow-in-the-dark rubber wristbands that read "Cushing for Kate." They also featured Kate and her friends in their recent Cushing Olympics video using Kate's favorite song, "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift; it was also the theme song of the night at the dance. The money raised from “Dance Down DIPG” will help Kate's family with their travel expenses for hospital visits and more.

“I am immensely proud of them and their efforts,” says Mrs. Salvucci. “This is unique in that a dorm sponsored a campus-wide event, a model that I hope the other dorms will adopt.”
