Fall Family Weekend Recap

More than 300 people joined us on campus for Fall Family Weekend. We’ve heard lots of positive feedback about the weekend. If you have comments or ideas about how to make future weekends even better, email them to parentprograms@cushing.org.

We kicked off the weekend on Thursday night with a social gathering for parents at the Colonial Inn. Our parents really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other better.

On Friday, our student-faculty chorus honored Headmaster Torino today with the inaugural performance of "Ox Cart Man", a piece composed by Mr. Desh Hindle, Director of Music. The piece is based on the poem by Donald Hall, which tells the cyclical story of an 18th-century farmer's life and how he must begin anew each year. Mr. Torino used this poem during his first convocation last fall, comparing the story of the farmer to the way teachers prepare each year for a new group of students. This is the first choral piece Mr. Hindle has composed and he did it in just six days!

On Friday night, we feasted on wonderful food in the Fisher-Watkins Dining Commons while being serenaded by the Pleasant Street String Band, a group made up of two faculty members and two students.

Many of our sports teams played during the weekend including Varsity Boys’ Soccer, which won an exciting game against Vermont Academy; Varsity Volleyball, who played their hearts out against Winchendon School, but came up short; Varsity Football, who lost a heartbreaker in their home opener against Exeter.

We look forward to hosting all our families again in the spring!
