Conferring in Japan on Nuclear Disarmament

Earlier this month, Oliver Kaplowitz ’15 and Will Livis ’16, two Cushing students who participate in our Critical Issues Forum (CIF) traveled to Japan with faculty advisor Dr. David Shields to participate in the annual CIF conference on nuclear disarmament. The event was held in Hiroshima, the first city to have experienced nuclear devastation, and on the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings in 1945.

The students spent two days with groups from across the United States, Russia, and Japan, discussing this year’s topic: Nuclear Disarmament: Humanitarian Approach. And another great take-away: “The trip to Japan was a great opportunity for me to experience traditional Japanese cultural while living with a Japanese host family,” said Will. You may check out the group’s website at http://www.cushingcif.org along with their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CushingCif
