Performing Arts Series Finale

The 2014-2015 Cushing Academy Performing Arts Series culminated with a performance of Jerry Sabatini & Sonic Explorers Octet on Cowell Chapel Stage, March 28, 2015.

Sonic Explorers is a highly spirited and creative instrumental octet whose repertoire focuses on original compositions and arrangements by bandleader and trumpeter, Jerry Sabatini, who is also a member of Cushing’s Performing Arts Department. Rooted in the history of American jazz, blues, funk, and rock, blended with Eastern European Gypsy and Middle Eastern flair, Jerry’s music is driven by some of the greatest and most highly sought after jazz musicians and improvisers in the Boston and NYC areas. In the summer of 2013, Sonic Explorers released their 5th CD, American Gypsy. As Sabatini puts it, “Each track unfolds like a story rich with cinematic character and mood … and like the human experience no two stories are exactly the same.”

As we celebrate the Academy’s 150th year and the town of Ashburnham’s 250th, we are thrilled with the results of our inaugural year of the Series, and we were glad to share these events with the public.
