Summer Student Handbook

Mission Statement
Cushing Academy, founded as a coeducational boarding school in 1865, exists for students, their academic growth and their personal development. We are dedicated to educating the mind, shaping the character, and nurturing the creativity of young men and women. In a community that is academically and culturally diverse, we challenge each individual, support excellence in every aspect of the learning process, and promote active participation in all areas of life and learning. We offer a demanding college preparatory curriculum, teach skills that build confidence, and instill values that endure.

The Cushing Summer Session Community
The Cushing Summer Session community consists of students, faculty, staff, and their families, which comprise a diverse and dynamic group from across the United States and around the world.  Our community ris enriched by many cultures, traditions, and value systems. Given the nature of our community, students are expected to respect the differences they see, to address misunderstandings responsibly, and to be courteous in all of their interactions both online and offline.  We believe that every member of our community contributes to our campus atmosphere, so we expect all of our students and faculty to uphold the values and standards set forth in this document.

The Handbook identifies policies, procedures and rules designed to provide for the safety and welfare of both the individual student and our community. Standards of responsible conduct and behavior are outlined and apply to all Cushing Academy Summer Session students whether on campus, participating in school sponsored activities or in the environs of the school.  In certain circumstances, those standards may also apply in non-school related situations.

Cushing Summer Session has the right to alter, apply, or vary from these policies, procedures, and rules in its discretion for the protection, safety, and well-being of its students and of the school community.
