    2017 - 2018
    Head Coach: Steve Jacobs

Cushing Academy has a rich tradition of excellence in hockey, having been recognized as a powerhouse both nationally and in the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association.  Each year we play the toughest schedule in prep school hockey, competing against the perennial top ranked teams in the country.  Some of the teams we play include Kimball Union, Salisbury, Phillips Andover, Phillips Exeter, Deerfield, Dexter, Thayer, and nearby rival Lawrence Academy.  The Penguins have also faced off against national powers like Shattuck St. Mary’s and most recently Culver Military Academy.

Cushing has produced many players in the NHL and professional (AHL, Europe, ECHL) leagues, as well as several Olympians. Some of our former stars include Jeff Norton ‘84 (Michigan, Olympian, NHL), Brad Norton ‘87 (UMass, NHL), John Lilley ’91 (BU, Olympian, NHL), Eric Nickulas ’94 (UNH, NHL), Tom Poti ’96 (BU, Olympian, NHL All Star), Bobby Allen ’97 (BC, NHL), Peter Metcalf ‘98 (UMaine All American National Champion, NHL), Chris Bourque ’04 (BU, Olympian, NHL, AHL MVP), Keith Yandle ’05 (two-time NHL All Star), Richard Bachman (Colorado College, NHL), Brad Malone ’07 (North Dakota, NHL), Broc Little ’07 (Yale, Olympian, AHL, Sweden/Swiss pro), Ryan Bourque ’09 (NHL), David Warsofsky ’09 (BU, NHL), and Conor Sheary ’10 (UMass, NHL two-time Stanley Cup winner).  Many Penguin NCAA players have skated at Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, UNH, Maine, UConn, UMass Lowell, UMass Amherst, Providence, Merrimack, Harvard, Cornell, Yale, Notre Dame, Holy Cross, Clarkson, Colgate, Union, St. Lawrence, Vermont, RPI, West Point, Air Force, Bowling Green, Colorado College, Denver, Michigan, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Arizona State.  Some of the D3 schools include Bowdoin, Colby, Connecticut College, Middlebury, Trinity, Norwich, and St. Anselm.

The Penguins have secured two New England Elite Championships, one Large School Championship, and 21 in-season tournament championships.

Cushing boasts one of the top prep school hockey rinks in the country, along with world-class training facilities.  Our dedicated professional strength and conditioning coaches direct an off-ice hockey-specific program throughout the year, which complements our commitment to the total development and education of our hockey players.

    Come join the proud tradition!
