Cross Country - Boys, Varsity
2019 - 2020
Head Coach: Stirling Ince
Cushing Academy welcomes runners of all ability and experience levels to join its Cross Country team. In the past decade, the program has seen several graduates go on to compete at the highest level of NCAA competition. Typically, these athletes run cross country in the fall and compete in track and field in the spring. Often, they take advantage of our proximity to some of the best indoor track facilities in the country and compete in indoor track competitions during the winter months. For those athletes who wish to challenge themselves beyond the competition afforded by the New England Prep School Track & Field Association (NEPSTA) league, options include competing in regional, national and even international competitions.
In the last two decades, Cushing athletes/graduates have competed at the Northeast regional and national Footlocker Cross Country Championships, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Mayor’s Cup, the United States Amateur Track & Field Association (USATF) Junior National Cross Country Championships, the World Junior Cross Country Championships, the NCAA D1 & D2 National Cross Country Championships, the New England Collegiate Cross Country Division 3 Cross Country Championships, and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Cross Country Championships, among others. Graduates of the program have competed at Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, the University of Georgia, the University of Memphis, High Point University, Dartmouth University, Adelphi University, Bentley University, Morehouse College, Wesleyan University, Connecticut College, Suffolk University and St. Joseph’s College (Maine), among others.
Many athletes sign up for our program as a way of getting in shape for a winter sport, improving their overall fitness, or to experience the camaraderie that comes with being part of a competitive sports team. Whatever an athlete’s background before coming to Cushing, our goal remains the same – to help athletes to fulfill their potential as runners and develop healthy lifestyle habits they will carry with them long after they have left Ashburnham.
