Cushing Academy’s Varsity Soccer is a team that competes to its fullest in every game and enjoys intense small-game competition in every practice. It has stood out for exemplary goalkeeping and a talented defensive force. The weekly schedule includes six days of soccer, usually with four training sessions and two games. Practices are often built around the small game, along with work to challenge skill and vision in a practical application to the game. There are weekly strength training sessions built into the practices as well in the new Watkins Field House. This aims to support and develop the players, all of whom are multiple sport varsity athletes at Cushing Academy. While the program is in a stage of growth, there is a strong and experienced core of returners who are committed to their development as players and to the overall success of the program. The team staged a few upsets in the 2016 season and were much more competitive against the highest-ranking opponents.
