Shawn Gebhardt graduated from the Maine College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture. He also holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from Salem State University. A licensed Art Teacher and School Adjustment Counselor, he worked at Farr Academy in Cambridge, Mass. In his eight years at Farr, Mr. Gebhardt worked as an Art Teacher/Counselor, and then as the School Support Counselor, serving students with emotional, behavioral, and learning differences. After spending a year as a Disability Services Counselor at North Shore Community College, Mr. Gebhardt spent three years working in the Salem Public Schools in the role of School Adjustment Counselor. In both of these roles, Mr. Gebhardt continued to work with students across a broad spectrum of learning differences. In addition to presenting district-wide workshops on working with difficult populations, Mr. Gebhardt has attended several key professional development trainings, including Lynn Lyons’ Managing Anxiety in Teens, Learning and the Brain Conference, and Managing Anxiety in the Classroom. Mr. Gebhardt has attended Mindfulness Workshops, and has brought this to his work in Cushing’s Academic Support Department.
Complementing his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Gebhardt lives on campus with his two children, teaches Filmmaking, heads the fall semester Community Service elective, and coaches JV Girls’ Hockey during the winter season.
Martha Hagerty joined Cushing’s English Department in 2017 after teaching for two years at Education First International Academy in Thornwood, N.Y., where she taught English to international students from over thirty different countries, served as a house parent, advised the gay/straight alliance, and coached the varsity tennis team. Prior to teaching, Ms. Hagerty earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Gettysburg College. At Gettysburg she choreographed in the dance program, played intramural tennis, and earned the Leadership Development Award for her service as a resident assistant. Ms. Hagerty was a four-year boarder at Berkshire School.
