Summer is a time for FUN — and Cushing Summer delivers! Special on-campus activities and off-campus excursions give students a chance to explore New England, try new things, and build lasting friendships with classmates

Weekend Trips

Off-campus trips are offered each weekend. Students are given the opportunity at weekly assembly to sign-up for a wide range of chaperoned trips, from local shopping excursions to full days exploring Boston. Evening + Weekend Activities

The Campus Recreation team offers on-campus activities free time and hosts larger special events throughout the summer. For students wishing for a little downtime recreation, Cushing Academy has something for everyone.

Summer Semi-Formal Dinner and Dance
A mid-summer celebration that marks the end of Session 1 with a special white linen dinner and all-school dance. Students are encouraged to bring “nice” outfits for the evening (dresses, suits, jackets and ties, etc).

International Culture Day

A proud tradition of Cushing Summer is the celebration of the many cultures gathered on campus each year. Students are encouraged to wear traditional costumes, share favorite recipes, and participate in our talent show featuring traditional stories, songs and dances from around the world.

Cabaret

Held on the Chapel main stage, our end-of-summer talent show is always a favorite. From music and dancing to group skits and showing off “hidden’ talents, our Cabaret give every student performer an opportunity to shine!

Summer Art Show

The best of our summer art projects are on display in Cushing's Maude Bowen Carter Gallery for the entire campus to enjoy. Students from the Arts Program and those in afternoon art classes contribute their favorite paintings, drawing, ceramics, photos, metal, and glasswork. Sip ginger ale and munch chocolate covered strawberries while enjoying student work with friends.

End of Summer Celebration

Our final night of the summer is celebrated with a special all-school dinner and party on the turf. DJ'ed music, food trucks, fun and games are great ways to wrap up summer with your new friends.

Graduation Ceremonies

Two of our favorite nights of summer are our graduations. One graduation marks the end of the first session, and our second graduation concludes the full summer program and session two. Each student is called to the stage to receive a framed certificate acknowledging completion of their Cushing Summer program. Students and faculty speeches are always highlights of the night. Parents are invited to attend.

Open Ice Skating

Iorio Arena, home of Cushing Academy Ice Hockey, is located on campus. A short walk from the dorms, open skate night is a cool escape from the summer heat and a great activity to try with friends. We have plenty of ice skates for students to borrow and offer beginner lessons if needed.

Hobby Nights

Throughout the summer, special hobby night activities are offered during free time by faculty members. Learn to tie dye, crochet, write poetry, game, and more. Tell us about your favorite hobby and we’ll try to make that happen too!

Student Center Activities

Open during free time and on weekends, our Student Center is located in the same building as the dining hall. Karaoke, bingo, pool, ping pong, movies and video games tournaments are regularly offered activities in the "Stu." (The Student Center is also home to our Campus Store and Mailroom.)

Turf Night

Quimby Field is the center of campus, and — under the bright lights — is often utilized as a an evening gathering place for activities such as laser tag, spikeball, cornhole and other organized games on nights and weekends.

S’mores, Sno-Cones, + Food Trucks

Snacks always seem to taste a little better during summer! Be on the lookout for s’mores stations — roast your own marshmallows and combine with chocolate and graham crackers for a uniquely American treat! — Sno-cone pop-ups and food trucks featuring treats like: ice cream cookie sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, more!

Open Gym

For students looking to burn off a little steam during free time, Open Gym features pick-up basketball and volleyball games, and full access to the Cushing Fitness Center, which features a variety of cardio and strength machines.

Intramural Athletics

For competitive and recreational athletes, we offer nightly, co-ed sports leagues in basketball, soccer, volleyball and tennis. All skill levels are welcome!

For athletes looking for a bit more competition, we also offer travel teams for both middle school and high school levels in basketball, soccer, volleyball and tennis. Travel teams compete against other summer programs in the area and games are live streamed for parents back home.
